Two Newark High School students surrendered to police today and officers are looking for a third in the strong-arm robbery of a 14-year-old student at the high school.
The 16-year-old boy, of the 1300 block of N. French St. in Wilmington, and a 15-year-old boy, who lives in the 500 block of Buttonwood Drive in Wilmington, were each charged today with second-degree robbery and conspiracy, police said.
Both teens were committed to the New Castle County Juvenile Detention Center after each failed to post $7,000 bail.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a 17-year-old boy, who lives in the 300 block of Kennebec St., in Wilmington, on the same charges.
Newark police spokesman Lt. Thomas LeMin said a security hall monitor interrupted the strong-arm robbery of a 14-year-old boy in a stairwell of the high school at 401 E. Delaware Avenue on Jan. 23.
The three assailants had pinned the teen against a wall, patted him down and forced him to the ground, stole money and other belongings and fled, LeMin said.
They were later identified by the security hall monitor and through the use of the school's security camera system.
