Traffic stop in Glasgow leads to arrest on drug charges

A traffic stop in Glasgow led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Newark man who was allegedly transporting 69 grams of marijuana in his car, police said today.
State police charged Louis Paul Gabriel III with possession with felony intent to deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for drug sales, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop at a red light and driving while suspended.
Gabriel was released on $7,100 unsecured bail.
State police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said a state trooper, who was traveling east on U.S. 40, stopped Gabriel's Acura TL about 9:45 p.m. Saturday after he saw him run a red light at U.S. 40 and Del. 896.
After talking to the driver, the trooper learned that Gabriel's driving privileges were suspended and arrested him, Whitmarsh said.
A search of the Acura uncovered 69 grams of a green leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana and a digital scale, Whitmarsh said.
The substance was divided into three separate packages.
