Fatal accident just outside of Newark

Delaware State Police are investigating an accident that killed a 20-year-old New Jersey man Monday night just outside of Newark.
The accident happened at about 10:50 p.m. at the intersection of East Chestnut Hill Road and Chapel Street South, said Cpl. Jeffrey Whitmarsh of the Delaware State Police.
The victim, driving north on Chapel Street (Del. 72), collided with a 2000 Ford Ranger operated by Stephen Hoover, 25, of Newark, Whitmarsh said.
Investigators say Hoover told them that he entered the insection with a yellow light, Whitmarsh said.
The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. His name is being withheld until the family can be notified, Whitmarsh said.
Hoover and a passenger in his vehicle were taken to Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Whitmarsh said.
