Aggressive-driving stop near Middletown leads to drug arrest
A 26-year-old Philadelphia man stopped for driving aggressively early today was arrested on drug charges after state troopers found cocaine in the car near Middletown, police said.
State police charged Michael Lucas with driving while intoxicated, possession of cocaine, conspiracy, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A second man in the car, identified as Tyrone Johnson, 38, of New Castle, was charged with possession of cocaine and conspiracy.
State police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said about 8:14 a.m. a motorist called 911 to report that a silver Acura TL was driving aggressively south on Del. 1 at Del. 299.
Whitmarsh said the caller reported the car was driving on its rims.
As troopers responded, additional callers to 911 reported that the vehicle made a U-Turn in the area of Pine Tree Road.
A trooper soon located the Acura traveling north on Del. 1 in the area of Del. 299.
The trooper activated his emergency equipment and the suspect stopped on the shoulder.
As the trooper approached, the driver got out and a struggle ensued.
Lucas and Johnson were both taken into custody.
A search of the car revealed about three grams of a powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine in the vehicle and also in Johnson's possession, police said.
Bail information was not immediately available, Whitmarsh said.
